Ngapali Beach (Myanmar)

Ngapali Beach (Myanmar)

Ngapali beach – probably one of the best kept secrets in Central Asia. Imagine a tropical beach, white sand, turquoise water, boarded by coconut trees and as much seafood as you can eat… and you’ll get an idea of what this beach town is about: paradise…

We took a direct flight from Yangon to Thandwe, which is a tiny little airport close to Ngapali beach. From there it was just a short 10 minute taxi ride to our hotel, which was an oasis on the beach. Rooms were like little bungalows made out of wood, surrounded by palm trees and extremely well kept tropical gardens, and an infinity pool soaring above the beach. We loved this place so much that we extended our stay! 🙂

We spent 4 days relaxing on the beach, eating grilled king prawns and steamed red snappers for a couple of euros, sipping ice cold Myanmar beer – heaven! It was perfect to relax after our adventures in Bhutan, and a great start of our trip in Myanmar. The amazing thing about Ngapali is that is it still very quiet and there are not so many tourists compared to other paradise destination in Asia. So don’t spread the word too much! 🙂

A part from beach and sea there is not much to do in Ngapali but a great activity is to rent a boat or kayak and explore the desert island across from the beach. Some locals even built a pop-up bar on the only beach of the island where you can buy cold coconuts!

Where to sleep / eat?

  • Amata resort – amazing hotel on the beach and great value for money (we paid 125 USD per night which is way less than what some of the other beach resorts are asking)
  • Two Brother’s restaurant – just across from Amata resort, they have excellent food and it’s super cheap!
